The best base locations in Palworld 1.0, by resource and playstyle
If you're looking for the best spot for your base in Palworld, what you'll mostly find online are lists from the early access days. A fair chunk of those no longer hold up, because the map has grown considerably since then: Sakurajima brought the oil fields, and the 1.0 release added the Sky Islands above the map. That's why this guide lists the best locations for every goal — ore and coal, oil, farming and a main base — with coordinates checked against the current 1.0 map. To read coordinates, open the map in-game; they're shown at the bottom next to your cursor.
Why three specialised bases work better than one big one
You start Palworld with a single base slot; the second and third open up as your base level rises. Treat those slots as a growth path: when a new one unlocks, don't fill it with another all-round base, but with a specialist. What you're working towards is a mining base that digs ore and coal non-stop, an oil base for your late-game technology and a main base where you live, craft and farm. Every base simply keeps running while you're somewhere else, so three specialists together produce far more than one overcrowded base where your Pals keep getting in each other's way.
The only downside: you travel back and forth more. So always place your bases near a fast travel statue and empty your chests along one fixed route.
Overview: the best locations in 1.0
| Goal | Spot | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Ore + coal (endgame) | Near the Sealed Realm of the Mystic | (188, -37) |
| Ore (early game) | Small island above the starting area | (8, -526) |
| Oil | Sakurajima oil fields | (-646, 270) |
| Main base + farming | Plateau in the starting area | (247, -500) |
| Soralite (endgame) | Sunreach Sky Islands | multiple clusters |
Mining base: ore and coal in one spot
The best mining location in 1.0 sits around (188, -37), near the Sealed Realm of the Mystic. Within a single base radius you'll find both ore and coal nodes here — exactly the combination you need once refined ingots become your standard. On top of that, the spot sits on the rocks in such a way that raids simply can't reach it: attackers find no path up, so your mining Pals keep working undisturbed.
If you're still early in the game, the small island around (8, -526), above the starting area, is still a perfectly good first mining base. This early access classic is still right there in 1.0. You'll only find ore and no coal, but for your first ingots that's more than enough.
In your mining base, mainly deploy Pals with a high mining level and keep the number of other workstations limited: the fewer distractions, the more ore ends up in your chests.
Oil base: the Sakurajima oil fields
Crude oil is the bottleneck of the late game, and the oil fields on Sakurajima around (-646, 270) are the best place for it. Nowhere else will you find this many oil nodes together, and the terrain is unusually flat — a rarity on this map. Good to know: one oil node fits two extractors, doubling the yield per node.
Do keep in mind that oil extractors demand quite a bit of power. Bring electricity Pals and place enough generators, otherwise your expensive setup will mostly stand idle. If you can't reach Sakurajima yet, there are also scattered oil nodes on the main map, including at the edge of Mount Obsidian — though you'll need heat protection there.
Main base and farming: flat, mild and close to a fast travel
For your main base, different things matter than resource nodes: flat terrain to build spaciously, a mild climate so your Pals don't need special protection, and a fast travel point within walking distance. The grassy plateau around (247, -500) in the starting area scores on all three and is the logical home base for most players.
Set this base up for food and production: berry and wheat plantations, a ranch with Pals that provide eggs, milk and wool, and a kitchen that keeps your supplies topped up. This is also where the output of your mining and oil bases comes together, so build ample storage and place your most important crafting stations here.
What about the Sky Islands?
The Sunreach Sky Islands are the new endgame area of 1.0, with soralite as a fresh material to mine. Once you have a flying mount that can get there, a fourth, specialised base is worth considering. The first guides still contradict each other about the single best soralite spot, so explore the islands yourself before you build. Also bear in mind that a base at high altitude is hard to reach for guildmates who are just starting out.
With a guild you cover everything at once
On a server this strategy really comes into its own. In Palworld, bases belong to your guild, not to you alone: with a few players you can easily maintain a mining base, an oil base and a main base with a farm, and everyone benefits from each other's production. One player optimises the mine, another hauls in oil, and everything ends up in shared chests.
How many bases a guild can have in total is a server setting: BaseCampMaxNumInGuild in PalWorldSettings.ini sets the upper limit, and on your own server you can raise it to ten without mods. How to edit that file safely is covered in our guide to PalWorldSettings.ini. On a Palworld server from MC-Node (from € 6,00 per month) you manage settings like these through the panel. Your server runs on our own hardware with NVMe storage in the Previder data centre in Hengelo, DDoS protection is included and everything can be cancelled monthly.
Honestly: the pitfalls of many bases
More bases don't come free. Every base with working Pals stays active even when nobody is nearby, and that adds up in your server's memory usage. If you run several full bases with a large guild, keep an eye on server performance and pick a heavier plan if needed.
Also think about whether you actually want those raid-proof spots. A base raids can't reach is efficient, but it also removes an entire gameplay element — if you enjoy defending, deliberately pick open terrain. And finally: big updates can shift nodes, as older guides now painfully prove. After a major patch, check whether your mine is still where you left it, and always back up your world before moving bases.
