How do I change my FiveM license key?
In this article
Every FiveM server needs a valid license key from Cfx.re to start. If you need to replace your key — for example because it expired, is already in use on another server, or because you have a key with a higher slot limit — you can arrange it in a few minutes via Keymaster and the MC-Node panel.
Step 1: Create a new key on Cfx.re Keymaster
- Go to the Cfx.re Keymaster website and log in with your Cfx.re account.
- Click New server (or open an existing registration if you want to reuse it).
- Fill in the requested details, such as the server name and the IP address of your MC-Node server. You can find the IP address in the panel on your server page.
- After creating it, you will see the license key. Copy it in full; you will need it in a moment.
Note: a license key is tied to the IP address you enter in Keymaster. If the IP is wrong, FiveM will reject the key.
Step 2: Change the key in the MC-Node panel
- Log in at panel.mc-node.net and open your FiveM server.
- Go to the Startup tab.
- Find the variable for the license key (usually labelled FiveM License or
FIVEM_LICENSE). - Delete the old value and paste in your new key. Make sure there are no spaces before or after the key.
- The change is saved automatically as soon as you leave the field.
Step 3: Restart your server
- Go to the Console tab.
- Click Restart (or Stop and then Start).
- Watch the console output. If the server starts without key errors, the new key is active.
Fixing common key errors
- Invalid license key — The key was pasted incorrectly or is incomplete. Copy the key again from Keymaster and paste it into the startup variable without extra spaces or line breaks.
- Key is tied to another IP — Open your server registration in Keymaster and update the IP address to the IP of your MC-Node server. Then restart your server.
- Key already in use — One license key can only run on one active server at a time. Stop the other server or create an additional key in Keymaster.
- Key expired or deleted — Keys that you delete in Keymaster or that have expired no longer work. Create a new key and repeat steps 2 and 3.
- Server still won't start — Wait a few minutes; changes in Keymaster sometimes take a moment to come through. Then try again with a restart.
