Awakening and Radiant Gems: how Palworld's new endgame works
With version 1.0, Palworld finally has a real endgame. Finish the story and you unlock the World Tree, and with it a brand-new system: Awakening. You farm Radiant Gems there, turn them into Awakening Crystals and use those to make your strongest Pals permanently stronger. In this guide we walk you through how it works step by step, where the grind is most efficient, and why doing it with a regular group on a 24/7 server is many times faster than solo or in co-op.
One thing up front: this system is brand new. Everything below is based on patch 1.0.3 from 12 August 2026. Quantities, drop rates and recipes may change in later patches, so check the patch notes if in doubt.
What is Palworld Awakening?
Awakening is a permanent upgrade for a Pal you already own. Use an Awakening Crystal on a Pal and it permanently gains roughly 10% extra Attack and Defense, plus a golden aura and a glowing level number in your party. If you find the glow distracting, you can turn the aura off in the graphics settings; the stat boost stays either way.
Just as important is what Awakening does not do: your Pal doesn't evolve into another species, and passives, IVs and active skills stay exactly as they were. So Awakening doesn't replace a good breeding line or passives, it stacks on top. That's why it pays to breed your best specimen first and awaken it afterwards, not the other way round.
First stop: the World Tree
All Awakening materials come from the World Tree, the endgame zone of 1.0. It only opens after you've finished the main story, including all Tower bosses. The Pals you'll meet there sit around level 70, so come prepared: this is very much post-final-boss content, not something you squeeze in halfway through.
You'll also need the Ancient Workbench, the crafting station where you make Awakening Crystals. You unlock it at Technology level 67 for five technology points. Place it at your main base before you head out farming, so you can craft in between runs.
Farming Radiant Gems in Palworld: how the drop works
Radiant Gems drop exclusively from Pals in the World Tree, both when you defeat them and when you catch them. The most important rule: the gem's element always matches the Pal's element. There are nine kinds: Neutral, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ground, Ice, Dragon and Dark. So if you want to awaken a Fire Pal, you specifically hunt Fire Pals in the tree.
Here's how to farm most efficiently:
- Focus on the aura variants. The level 70 Pals with a visible aura have about a 50% chance to drop 1 to 3 Radiant Gems. Regular specimens yield far less.
- Alphas are guaranteed hits. Alpha versions in the World Tree always drop their gems. If you see one, don't skip it.
- Catching counts too. A caught Pal gives the same drop as a defeated one, plus a bonus for your Pal box. So bring plenty of spheres.
- Hunt by element. Since each Awakening Crystal needs 50 gems of a single element, running around hitting everything is a waste of your time. Pick a route past Pals of the element you need.
From 50 gems to an Awakening Crystal
The recipe at the Ancient Workbench is the same for every element: 50 Radiant Gems of that element plus 10 World Tree Holy Water for one Awakening Crystal. You then use the crystal of the matching element on your Pal.
Do the maths on what that means. Awakening one Pal costs 50 gems. A team of five Pals of different elements costs 250 gems plus 50 Holy Water, spread across five separate farming routes. Even when you target the aura variants, that's many evenings of solo play. That's by design: Awakening is the long-term grind that keeps Palworld's endgame going.
World Tree Holy Water and the other 1.0 items
World Tree Holy Water, the second ingredient, also comes from the World Tree. It drops when you defeat or catch certain Pals there, and you can put suitable Pals on the Ranch for it too. Since patch 1.0.3 there are extra sources, including World Tree expeditions and fishing in the World Tree, and its weight has been lowered from 1.0 to 0.1, so you can lug around ten times as much of it. Tweaks like these show just how fresh this system still is.
The World Tree also yields new 1.0 resources like Paloxite and Mythical Wood for the matching endgame recipes. In short: once you're in the tree, you'll want to farm everything at once, which makes long sessions all the more valuable.
Why this goes many times faster on a 24/7 server
This grind is perfectly doable on your own, but slow. With a regular group on a dedicated server the game changes completely:
- Split the work by element. Four players who each farm one element and dump everything into a shared chest at the base get done in one evening what takes a solo player a week.
- The world never stops. In co-op the world pauses as soon as the host goes offline, and you're capped at four players. On a dedicated server everyone logs in whenever it suits them, and the night shift simply keeps farming while you sleep.
- Room for your whole group. A dedicated server supports far more players than co-op, so bigger communities can build up their Awakening stockpile together too.
To be fair: if you play strictly solo and you're in no hurry, a server isn't a must for this grind. But as soon as two or more of you get serious about the endgame, a 24/7 server pays for itself in farming time many times over. New system, so keep an eye on the patch notes
Finally, the biggest pitfall: Awakening is young. Patch 1.0.3 already made big changes to Holy Water, and it's quite possible that drop rates, recipe costs or farming spots will shift again in the coming months. So don't blindly copy numbers from older videos and guides, and update your server as soon as a new patch drops; on a hosted server that's no more than a restart.
